How Can Construction Go Green?

How Can Construction Go Green?

There is a biodiversity crisis in the UK and Ireland, with many species facing challenges posed by continued human development. There are growing calls for changes to the way we build but what does going green really look like when it comes to construction in the UK and Ireland?

BAM UK & Ireland is one company leading the way, having recently announced a collaboration with the Eden Project. The two organisations are coming together to put nature at the heart of the built environment.

There are three elements to this collaboration. The first is education to ensure that everyone who is part of a building project, as well as those purchasing or using the building once it’s constructed, are aware of how nature plays a role in the development and the need to consider the natural environment alongside construction projects.

The second is to take action to develop projects that demonstrate how construction organisations can bring nature into their developments and enhance rather than diminish local biodiversity.

Finally, the organisations hope to influence others in the industry. Leading by example, they intend to demonstrate how nature-based solutions are not only possible, but better for everyone.

There is a growing recognition in the construction sector that the way in which we operate needs to change. The UK Green Building Council now has over 600 members who are exploring ways in which to construct for climate mitigation and how they can include nature-based solutions in projects.

If you’re looking for Sany excavators in Ireland ahead of a new project, it’s not too late to consider how you could make the project greener either through the materials that are chosen or the overall site design and layout.

Bam UK & Ireland and the Eden Project have pledged to share what they learn through their collaboration, so you may also be able to get some ideas for green construction approaches by looking at others in the industry who are taking the lead.
