When Should You Choose A Mini Digger?

If you work on a range of construction projects, you’ll know that no two building sites are ever the same. That’s why it’s important to have a selection of plant equipment available to you, so you can tailor it to your needs for each project.

This certainly applies to excavators. There are three main types of excavators you can choose to use:

  • Standard excavators
  • Mini diggers
  • Micro diggers

Mini diggers sit in the middle size-wise. Standard excavators are typically used for larger construction projects, like big housing developments or commercial developments, because they can dig deeper and handle more challenging conditions.

At the other end of the scale are micro diggers, which are the smallest type of excavator available. As these machines can typically only dig to a depth of around 1.5 m, they are best used for small domestic projects, like garden revamps.

That said, their compact size and light weight make them a good option if you are very limited on space.

Mini diggers are a step up from micro diggers. They still offer compact size, but are not as small, lightweight and maneuverable as micro diggers. However, their larger size and greater power means they can dig deeper and therefore offer more versatility in the jobs they can tackle.

What’s more, demand for mini excavators in Europe is expected to be driven in future by the need for infrastructure renewal in urban environments. Think replacing sewage pipes, water mains, gas mains and electricity grid upgrades.

If you are considering your options and are looking at mini diggers for sale in Northern Ireland or elsewhere in the UK, make sure you think not only about the excavator itself, but also the types of projects you predominantly work on when making your choice.
