The picture for Ireland’s construction industry has been far from smooth in recent months, but the latest data released as part of the AIB Construction PMI for Ireland shows a return to growth for the country’s construction sector.
Of the three construction sectors monitored, commercial construction put in the strongest performance. However, growth was highlighted in both the civil engineering and housing sectors too.
All of this points to a construction industry that is on up, which will be welcome news for many in the sector after a prolonged period of apparent decline.
Should my company invest in new plant machinery?
Whether it is worth investing in new Sany excavators and other plant machinery will depend on what projects your company has in its pipeline, but it certainly appears that there will be more work available for those working in construction.
In July last year, the Irish government announced a significant programme of infrastructure investment in Ireland, which will see over €275 billion (over £234 billion) poured into various projects between 2026 and 2035.
This will include investment in large strategic projects across transport, energy generation and water infrastructure.
The aim is to deliver thousands of new homes to support Ireland’s population, build new roads and upgrade both the water and energy infrastructure around the country to ensure it is fit for purpose in today’s world.
Given the scale of these projects, any firm that is successful in bidding for the work from the government will likely need to add to its plant hire machinery. Dump trucks, diggers and excavators may well end up being in high demand as a result.
Before you decide to invest in new plant machinery though, it’s important to work out what equipment you need to complete the projects on your books.
Carefully scope out not only the location of your projects, but also the landscape and local conditions to ensure that you purchase the right plant machinery for the work you will be undertaking.
